Safe & Connected Times

A little know-how
for everyday life.

Short reads and practical reminders to help you feel more comfortable with technology.

The everyday edition

Three small places to start.

01 / CONNECTION

Before your next video call

Give yourself a few minutes to get settled. Put your device on a stable surface and choose a comfortable spot with light in front of you.

  • Check that your device has enough charge.
  • Make sure you can hear the sound.
  • Keep the call invitation easy to find.

If something feels unfamiliar, ask the person you are calling to practice with you first.

02 / EVERYDAY CONFIDENCE

Make the screen work for you

If text is hard to read, your device may offer a larger text setting. Look in Settings for “Display,” “Text size,” or “Accessibility.” The names vary by device.

Try a small adjustment, open an app you use often, and see how it feels. You can adjust it again.

A comfortable screen is a useful starting point for learning.

03 / THOUGHTFUL HABITS

An unexpected message? Pause.

A message that asks you to act urgently deserves a closer look. Take your time before opening a link or sharing information.

If it claims to be from an organization you know, contact that organization using a phone number or website you already trust, rather than the details in the message.

You do not need to decide just because a message says “right now.”
